Truro & The Roseland
Nestling in a valley at the confluence of three rivers it is thought that the name Truro was derived from the Cornish word "Tri-veru" meaning three rivers. A unique city with cobbled streets linked by narrow alleyways and opes (such as the aptly named "Squeeze Guts Alley"), its sprawling centre dominated by a beautiful spired Cathedral, is home to a variety of high street stores, individual boutiques, cafes, restaurants, pubs, galleries, The Royal Cornwall Museum and the multi-purpose "Hall for Cornwall".
Away from the city, the winding narrow lanes of the Roseland beckon. Picturesque villages to be found include Veryan with its pretty by thatched round houses, and St Just with its lush Church gardens. Secluded beaches and tiny harbours such as Gorran Haven or the enchanting waterside village of St Mawes, guarded by a fine Tudor fort all hold a very special appeal.
