“We loved the cottage, the decor, the facilities: that big bath downstairs, good kitchen, shower, telly, garden, fairly close to the sea, well insulated, but having extra heaters, the whole feel of the place!”

A couple of little niggles: the washing machine smelled of fungi - I did a hot wash in it after, so hopefully sorted, might need a wash with some vinegary water. The drying machine came in handy after a rainy day! What is nothing to do with the cottage: narrow roads, often single, so a bit stressful driving, but mostly ok, but drivers to be aware. Would be useful to have some more information about: local shops, how to turn on the hot water for the bath (that it needs about an hour, otherwise ...

Tv worked well, and loved the safe and big garden (needs mulching and feeding with organic matter in the autumn, but lovely). Extra bonus to have a freezer as well (we left a frozen chips behind for somebody :D), and left a couple of blue, white and gold plates (they are old, but hope could be used in the decorations). Didn't dare to touch the nice Willeroy Bochs ones, but loved looking at them, the others were great to use and pretty, the whole place has a lovely atmosphere. We were very lucky to have had it for a better price, apart from the long journey from the Midlands, would love to be back someday. Also a great base for visiting several lovely places around. Thank you!!!

Missed the washing line.Sorry to see for sale.The upstairs sitting room a great asset as very bright for a game of Uno,or dominoes. Beds very comfy, would stay here again

“We absolutely loved the cottage.”

Its situation was perfect. The garden a delight! Real oldie world yet so comfortable. We had a slight issue with heating as one of the storage heaters wasn"t working and the weather was unseasonably rather chilly for the first week! We thought there may have been a problem with the freezer size judging by comments by other visitors but not at all, it was more than adequate and the fridge. Overall we so enjoyed Upper Roskorwell and the walks from the cottage. We would highly recommend! And we loved the clock in the kitchen ticking away too! Except our holiday was ticking away.

“We had a glorious 3 week stay at this wonderful old Cornish cottage hidden away above Porthallow.”

The property is very rustic/authentic and it just makes you feel at home. The lovely warm Arga in the kitchen is so welcoming after a long day walking the costal path and is also great to cook on/in we used it a lot. The garden is just lovely and was perfect for our dog Jess. The only downside we found was that both the double beds really need to be replaced as the mattress and bases have seen better days and are very noisy and it’s so important to get a good and comfortable nights sleep. We would definitely book again if these changes were made.

Such quiet in the mornings when we got up, and great walks from the door through fields and down to the coast. Our little dog loved the garden, as did we and it was very safe. An excellent Cornish experience, thank you.

“Well supplied with white goods.”

Beds comfortable. WiFi signal good. Cottage spacious but very rustic. Furniture old with poor use of space. Cottage in need of some TLC. Lovely private garden. Cottage location not the best with national south west coast walking route passing directly by front door and a farm track directly at the rear. There are no views over countryside from downstairs during crop growing season. Aga cooker was switched off, no wood for fires and most of walk heaters and towel rails were non operable dying our stay. We had 3 days of full rain so cottage smelled a little damp. Would have been nice to be able to air it through. Having said that is the owners invest in improving the inside then we would consider it again. If it was for sale it would make a good investment.

“This cottage was perfectly situated for the coastal path and all the walks we planned.”

The cottage had everything we needed and was comfortable. Views from the top lounge over the fields and towards the sea are stunning. It was very private and quiet except for a few walkers on their way to the lavender fields behind. The local lanes are exceptionally narrow in places, but with careful slow driving you soon get used to them. The cottage itself could be so much more if it had some well needed TLC and some broken/ worn fixtures and furniture were replaced. A larger kitchen fridge would be most useful. The upstairs shower water pressure was just a trickle but the beautiful bath downstairs made up for that. Overall we loved our stay and would recommend Higher Roskorwell Cottage.

“It was a very nice stay, very peaceful and straight onto the coastal path.”

It is a bit off the tourist beat but it made a nice change to just chill out and relax. Only thing I could have done with, was a hose attached to the outside tap to wash the mud off the dog.

Great cottage and really well equipped with everything you need. The only thing missing - unless it was there and we didn’t spot it - was a guide with things like recycling dos and don’t, waste collection day, nearest shop, good pubs, local walks etc. We’d definitely love to stay again.

“Very pretty cottage in lovely rural location.”

We had some good days out with the cottage as a base, however it is very out of the way and accessed via tiny lanes so beware if you’re a nervous driver! Beds and sofas could be more comfortable, and a few areas around the cottage need fixing or a refresh given the high price range. Beautiful garden which we used often.

“We very much enjoyed our stay at the cottage which is situated in a lovely part of Cornwall near to coastal walks with stunning views and in a lovely rural location.”

The cottage is very tastefully decorated and the garden too very well tended. There are just a few things we would like to highlight to make better: the bed linen was too warm and a second set of linen for week 2 would have been appreciated. The fridge was much too small, the garden table was nice but some more comfortable garden furniture/deck chairs/sun loungers would be good. We felt some information about what was around would have been useful. For instance The Five Pilchards pub in Porthallow is just a 10 minute walk there (longer coming back up the steep hill!) with great food and a great pub, nearby beaches and walks to take. St Keverne had just one pub not 2 and was also a great place to visit. We of course did our research of places to visit but just a few suggestions from the owners would have been nice. I have to say we were very happy there and some day would love to go back (hoping we get as good weather as this year!)

“Lovely place and very quirky in an ideal relaxed place.”

Great views from the upstairs lounge and a snug place with the fire going downstairs. All the necessary facilities were to hand and the scones, jam, cream, milk, coffee and tea were gladly received. Not sure where the clear bag was for the recycling so we simply brought it home to recycle here. Highly recommend this cottage and being on the Lizard peninsula was quiet and very relaxing with great walking all around.

Cosy feel to the decor, well equipped, and relaxing. However mattresses and sofas a little tired and thus not as comfortable as they could be. Also heating throughout upstairs and main living room downstairs a little archaic( night storage and fan heaters) and thus we were cold for 48 hrs as this part of the property takes a day or two to warm up. Rayburn in Kitchen, underfloor in downstairs bathroom all great. Wasn’t sure if one could get logs from anywhere, but we ran out of those supplied in a few days, thankfully had brought some of our own.! WiFi was vulnerable to dropping out every few minutes for most of the week. Possibly due to very stormy weather. Might be worth trying to find a more secure signal. I hope this is useful to the proprietors, as we will definitely be coming back,as despite the above suggestions, we loved our time in the cottage/ area..

“It was the most idyllic place we have ever stayed.”

Having holidayed in the area for 37 years this was by far the best place. The cottage was everything we wanted and more.Every detail thought of. The children loved it. Thank you for the super clean house and the feeling that we were the first ones there especially in these strange times. We have already booked for February and next August. The only down side is that’s 6 months away! Thank you again

Approached via a bridleway that connects to the spectacular coastal path, Higher Roskorwell is a wonderful 18th century Cornish stone cottage located in an area of outstanding natural beauty on The Lizard Peninsula, Cornwall.
