“We have stayed before.”

We like the house and enjoyed our stay. The minor points were a lack of fire starter pack. The lack of any toilet rolls and the need to clean dead flies from the bedrooms. The major issue was the washing machine failing to spin/work and as issue we also had previously. The outside light also was not working. I tried to swap the bulb but this did not fix it. We feel we left the house stocked with wood and toilet paper and hope the washing machine gets replaced for the next guests.

“We were all blown away by the barn and its very peaceful location as said in some earlier reviews the photo's really don't do it justice it is in such a beautiful and very well maintained location absolutely everything we needed was there if i were to have any criticism atall then no it wasn't immaculately clean but due to the sheer size of the place there just simply wouldn't be enough time to make it pristine between guests and it didn't affect our holiday in any way in fact all the family agreed that it was the only place we've stayed in that felt very homely normally our holidays our simply a base to get our heads down after exploring but this one was just nice to come back to fire up the log burner and just relax we would love to return without hesitation.”

Thank you for your rather dissapointing review! To address your main concern of the parking area which is covered in road grade aggregate I fail to see how it is possible how it could have damaged your tyres in anyway, this is simply not true ! We regularly update the fixtures and fittings in our “character “ Barn Sorry it was not to your taste. I do have some feedback for you ( normally) I would not make comments however, my cleaners called mre yesterday to say that the property was left in a poor state. We are happy to host guests pets and as dog owners ourselves we know what a benefit having this option is. However we do not expect guests to allow the dogs on the beds as you appear to have. The cleaners had to source at short fresh duvets so the arriving guests didn’t have to put up with doggy smells! We also do not expect of guests to bath their dogs when staying the waste having be cleaned of dog hair. In the kitchen the floor was covered in dog urine . I am afraid this falls short of what we expect of guests Property Owner

“All in All a good property.”

Was equipped with everything we needed. A Deep Clean would be a good idea, but that’s just a minor observation and didn’t spoil our stay. We all slept comfortably, though having read feed back before booking, it’s correct to say that some things need updating, Beds etc … The Pool table is okay for a knock about, but it’s in very poor condition. It definitely seems to be a popular doggy cottage. Our pup was intrigued with the sofas because they smelt strongly of other Dogs.

“We loved this property overall, it was super-spacious (we are a family of four) and well-equipped.”

The pool table really made the holiday as it rained A LOT and that ensured that we were entertained most evenings. It was a great base for seeing that area of Cornwall (Carnglaze Caverns, Golitha Falls and the smokehouse there were a particular highlight). The downsides were: the Nest that controlled the heating and water. It was very faffy and unfortunately kept shutting itself down - there was obviously a fault - but we didn't want to keep bothering the owner. It did mean we had a couple of quite cold showers... The downstairs ensuite sink always took a LONG time to drain, so there may have been a blockage. There were spider webs around the curtains - nothing a feather duster couldn't reach - and unfortunately, evidence of a mouse. Which may or may not still be alive as it ate my son's chocolate orange popping candy Easter egg! And the pool table had a bucket on due to a leak, but we didn't see evidence of this while we were there, luckily, so didn't bother us really.

“This was a return visit to kingfisher because we loved it on our first visit, and I have to say we were very disappointed.”

The first thing we saw was a bowl underneath the pool table and a note in the table explaining a leaky roof hence the bowl. We also understand that there would be cobwebs in the roof as it is a barn but there were big cobwebs on the windows. There was black tape over the light switch by the back door and tape on the kitchen sink. We also accept that due to it being on a farm there would be flies, but in the upstairs bathroom there were quite a few dead ones in the windowsill. We also found a glass under one of the single beds along with dust bunnies. My dog’s ball had rolled behind the corner cupboard this ment we had to get behind it and the back was full of dead flies, meaning that the house had not been cleaned properly. Also the last time we arrived, we were aware that we only had a starter pack of wood for the burner and we would have to buy more, but we had one log and that was it. This house is a beautiful house and we loved it the first time around, but this time we were very disappointed.

“Spacious, well equipped especially in the kitchen and with baby equipment which was much appreciated indeed.”

Great big living room, and having two dining tables was great for playing games at one and eating at the other! Three sofas meant enough space for us all to chill out together. Great WiFi throughout the house as well as a smart TV, dvds, books and games too. Lovely location, shame it was so wet and we couldn't use the outdoor seating but a lovely secluded area with a BBQ was available. Great size bedrooms and loads of storage, though the beds could do with replacing as they're creaky and have been repaired in the past. The oven was v temperamental (too hot too fast?) and set off the heat alarm every time we used it! There is an air fryer though but not large enough to cook a meal for all 7 of us at once. Would visit again if we visited Cornwall again but would hope for new beds by then!

The photos showed bunk beds which had since been split so we didnt have enough bed guards and one child fell out of bed a few times. Also the oven hadnt been cleaned so it got Smokey and set off the fire alarm every time we used it. Kids really enjoyed the horses and cows and it was a great space for our summer break

“Great location, peaceful and quiet but still within easy access of Cornwalls main A roads, A good sized accommodation with everything required with the added benefit of a pool table On the surface the place looks clean surfaces are relatively dust free but as you walk around the downstairs you realise the floor is dirty (my socks were black from walking around inside) and after retrieving something that fell behind the sofa you can tell the place only really gets a surface clean.”

The kitchen is great with everything you need and is well maintained but the some of the other furniture around is getting tired and the upstairs bathroom needs replacing, but the beds are comfortable and have ample storage for clothes so a good nights sleep is guaranteed. The outside decking area is nice the sun hits it perfectly for most of the day and there is a good clean bbq if you want, if I was to make a comment the surrounding area / car park could do with a tidy a bit of gardening and removal of unused / old bbq and decking etc, Would I stay here again Yes,I hope my comments are honest and helpful a few small bits could make a good place great

“Love the house, lovely and secluded off the beaten track, where the outside seating area has all day sun, and no sound from the roads.”

Parking for two cars in the shade. We loved the pool table, barbecue got used 5 days out of the seven we were there. A great place to thoroughly chill out. The beds unfortunately were a little too firm for us but no doubt will suit others. Be aware not to close the push down waste plug in the downstairs bathroom hand basin it jams down and very difficult to get out again. Would we book again if we were in the area? Most definitely.

“Lovely barn with some very thoughtful touches.”

The pool table provided amusement when the weather was poor and the access to streaming services was brilliant. Kitchen had everything we needed and more and with two toddlers under 3 the stair gate gave real peace of mind. If you are travelling with young children just be prepared for some noisy floor boards upstairs and the stairs. The outside area is fully enclosed so little ones can play outside without escaping. Communication with the owner was brilliant and we were kept informed of an issue with the locks, which were fixed before we arrived anyway! All in all a lovely, spacious, characterful barn that is home from home. Would definitely recommend and would love to come back. Many thanks

“We had a perfect stay and loved the ambiance of the cottage.”

It has everything you need. Very surprised to find tea towels, towels and lots of bits and pieces in the kitchen to clean up, down to salt and pepper for your dinners. The one drawback was the weather which has nothing to do with the owner but did take a while to heat up the cottage using the wood burner. It was -6 outside however. The steep lane down and around to the cottage was challenging when arriving due to snow and on leaving due to black ice. Okay when you have 4x4. I would certainly stay there again. Thank you to the owners.

“We arrived at the property to find the Key Safe open and the Keys in full view.”

First impressions were good on entering the property, moving on to the terrace there was an issue with the gate where it had dropped and was stiff to close and unable to latch without physically lifting the gate, something I could do but not something my pregnant daughter could do. Moving upstairs we expected to find a single and bunk beds in the family room but we’re greeted by 3 single beds, hence no space to put the Travel cot so we had to dismantle one bed to generate enough space for it. Into the upstairs bathroom and the Toilet was not secured to the floor and moved every time you sat on it. Property was very dusty and obviously had not been cleaned thoroughly, and it was only when we were checking prior to leaving that we discovered used tissues and sweet papers and thick dust under the bed in the downstairs en-suite bedroom. In the present climate cleaning is paramount and this was simply not good enough. All said the property is in a good location and we had a good holiday and I did phone the owner on my return home to high light the issues that we found.

My only disappointment as a dog owner, was that there was no access to footpath due to electric fences. The only other way to walking dogs was to either go out in car or walk along very busy road to get to quieter country lanes. Beautiful places to walk if you go out in car. “The home was part of a converted farm complex of cottages and they’re really beautiful.”

The Kingfisher barn is HUGE and had so much room for our family to spread out and relax. There was an issue with heaters the owner notified us of right away and had resolved early on. The pool table was a big hit with my boys and husband (even me!) and was nice to have two tables (we brought a jigsaw!) - I wish there had been a way to use the deck more it was giant and lovely - just a little chilly. Bedrooms huge - bathrooms clean. Pet friendly too. The location is central to the peninsula so we did say trips to many different places around Cornwall. All within an hour hour & a half drive. As for household items there were a few basics missing when we arrived but we picked them up easily enough. I would not recommend getting a grocery delivery as the post code does NOT work on sat navs. The sat nav sends you down a different road that leads to back of another (?) farm with no way to get through. There are -also major roadworks being done nearby so would recommend anyone going soon (Fall 2020) to look into them and map out your routes. We already want to go back. It was a huge hit with my whole family. Thank you!

As a dog friendly vacation I think it’s important for dog owners to know that the enclosed area is decking only and that there is nowhere to go for a walk with the dogs without driving somewhere. For me that was disappointing as it meant just a ten minute walk in the small area of all the holiday homes was all they had until we drove elsewhere. On a personal level I’m sorry to say I didn’t have a decent nights sleep while I was there, some people are ok with a rock hard mattress but I’ve come home totally exhausted with lack of sleep.

The kitchen was well equipped and clean. The pool table was great fun. The only downsides were 1) that there is absolutely no mobile signal in the property - the wifi is good but when we were expecting a phone call we had to wait outside for the call. 2) the decking was infested with flies making it impossible to sit out. 3) the postcode takes you to the wrong farm - we ended up knocking on the door of a neighbouring farm to get directions. The cleaner was good, we found a note when we arrived letting us know that she'd come in after the first week to change the beds. While she was there she even did some washing up for us which we didn't expect. On the whole a good holiday if you want total piece and quiet but a car is a must as there are no local amenities.

“Me my husband 3 children and grandparents had an amazing time at kingfisher barn.”

The setting was beautiful very peaceful. It was immaculately clean. We met Karen and Dave the cleaners Who were super friendly. Karen even organised a meal Out for me and my husband as we didn’t know where to go. She went above and beyond. The facilities were ample iron glasses mugs plates cooking items there were loads. We all Enjoyed playing on the pool table while the grandparents watched the amazon fire stick. A fantastic addition along with the bt boosters for WiFi. The only downside for me was there was no tumble dryer. We were unable to dry out beach towels as the weather was quite damp on an evening. Thank you we had an amazing stay!!

We are not aware of any problems with the heating in the property and our digital monitor did confirm that the heating was turned up to around 30 degrees during your stay. However, we are always happy for guests to raise any issues with us directly during their stay so we can resolve them. “The barn was better than the pictures, the surrounding so peaceful and great for the dogs.”

Location central to Padstow , Newquay , Looe and all the other tourist places . We had a great stay and snuggled up to the log burner on those cold nights but it was October . Local eating places that were in the welcome book were all great too Couple of things that need attention are the patio doors that won't open due to the rain and gutter overflow and the bathroom taps need to be sorted as washers have gone. All in all a really nice place to stay and we are looking to book again.

“Not easy to identify the property on arrival as the picture is of the rear of the property which is not visible from the car.”

The heating had been turned down even though there was snow on arrival. Also, it was difficult to light the wood burner as there was no kindling provided. The parking area allocated to this unit seemed to be the only one not fully hard standing (rather boggy). The local information provided was very scanty and generally out of date. We had no means of contacting the owner/caretaker as there is no mobile signal and no email address given. Notwithstanding these comments we would still recommend this property.

“Lovely barn great location as close to beaches and attractions.”

Initially we were concerned as the garden was not completely enclosed as described and our 2 small dogs were able to escape. This was eventually rectified by the owner after contacting him. Poor WiFi unable to accommodate multiple users so beware if you have teenagers also very little mobile signal. Downstairs bed in particular was uncomfortable and noisy kids complained about springs in their mattresses. Overall though thought the property and location was ideal for us. Showers were excellent especially after a day at the beach, and we had all the comforts of home. Lots of information about things to do locally inside the property. It’s worth noting that this property is attached to other farm conversions and there are other people around as we thought this was more isolated. This was not a problem and there was a small communal swing system. Parking was easy take note of directions as property was initially tricky to locate. Definitely consider coming back.

“Kingfisher barn is in a good position for visiting all areas of Cornwall and in a peaceful position.”

I was shocked on arrival to find the property to be not as clean as I would like, it was certainly clean when we left it. The pool table was a big plus and was enjoyed by my daughter and her dad. The garden is not exactly enclosed as stated, we had to go out and buy chicken wire to prevent our dogs getting out, which took up one day of our holiday. The barn was reasonably well equipped but the downstairs double bed and the upstairs single were very uncomfortable. There are no dog walks straight off the property- no footpaths at all so you will need your car.

The small village of East Taphouse is located on the A390 in the heart of the beautiful Cornish countryside, perfectly situated for exploring all that Cornwall and Devon have to offer. Located between the historic market towns of Liskeard to the east and the ancient stannary town of Lostwithiel to the west, there is also easy access to the picturesque old fishing ports of Looe, Polperro and Fowey and many spectacular sandy beaches and coves on the South Coast, whilst the rugged and dramatic Bodmin Moor is just 10 minutes to the north. You can also visit the famous Jamaica Inn resting in the centre of Bodmin Moor. Close by is the Eden Project, the magnificent Lost Gardens of Heligan, and the Carnglaze Caverns, along with many National Trust properties such as Lanhydrock and Cothele. Bodmin, famous for its steam railway and its infamous jail, and the tall ship harbour at Charlestown are also nearby and well worth a visit. Charlestown has been featured in many films and TV series including the latest TV series of 'Poldark'. Further afield, Plymouth is only a 30-minute drive away, as is the windswept northern coastline from Dartmoor to Land's End all accessible for an enjoyable day out. For food buffs there are the famous Rick Stein restaurants near Padstow, on the north coast, where you can also visit Wadebridge and the famous surfing capital, Newquay with its beautiful beaches and Tintagel, believed to have been the seat of King Arthur.
