“We booked this delightful cottage at very short notice to extend our stay in Cornwall, and Shirley kindly accommodated an early check-in.”

Chris also adjusted the heating for us, as the Autumnal evening chill began. Generous private parking, and an immaculate cottage equipped with everything we needed, including welcoming drinks. A characterful property, very efficiently organised. A cosy and convenient base for us to continue our Cornish adventures, and although adjacent to a main road (Shirley had notified us and we read a previous review about road noise) we had no issues with this, it was totally ignorable.

Well, this was a surprise! Firstly, we do not do the listing of the property and secondly, we have been letting the Cottage for over 40 years and yes, the road has unfortunately got busier over the years, however, we cannot move the cottage! Most people these days take the opportunity to check out the property that they are to stay at on google maps. I recall you saying that you checked out the location of the property as you were retracing relatives and it was important for you to be central for everywhere you wanted to visit. I feel we bent over backwards to help you during your stay. You booked the Cottage for 6 nights from the Sunday and then rang me prior to your visit to ask if your daughter could in fact stay the night prior, of which we had no problem. We had a heat spell during your visit and your daughter asked if we could provide fans to cool the bedrooms down at night. We came across with two electric fans for your use. At no time when we spoke did you mention that you had moved out and found alternative accommodation. I guess I will have to take your word for that! On the Saturday when you should have booked out of the cottage by 9.30am, owing to car hire problems you did not vacate the cottage until 12noon that day leaving us with very little time to carry out the changeover. Did we complain! No. To call us "disingenuous " is very hurtful. I guess having lived here all my life we have moved with the busier road conditions and take very little notice. To say we are being slightly dishonest or not telling the truth is far from who we are. I am sincerely sorry that your stay was a disappointment for you & that the rest of the party persevered! I guess in future instead of being a keyboard warrior, perhaps do your homework before you book. Shirley. Property Owner

“Chenalls Cottage was absolutely delightful !”

It was exactly as described. Spotlessly clean and comfortable for our group of 6 adults. The property was charming and welcoming. Garden with BBQ excellent for the good weather we had. Set in beautiful countryside and a short distance from Helston village where there is an excellent Museum of Cornish Life. I would highly recommend this property and hope to return again,

“We have just returned from what is our second stay at Chenalls Cottage with heavy hearts.”

.why? Why because this is a spectacular cottage that really is beyond compare. It truly is a "Chocolate Box" cottage with every comfort you could ever wish for along with beautiful gardens containing a vast array of lovely trees, shrubs and flowers. A private driveway that can easily park 3 cars. We have met up with owners Chris and Shirley several times now. They are so friendly and fun to be with. They really do all they can to make your stay a memorable one. The cottage is in the best possible location for all the A and B roads, making it so simple to drive anywhere in Cornwall. The beautiful town of Helston being just 3 minutes drive with the cheapest petrol in all of Cornwall! We will definetly be back again in 2024.

Thank you for your feedback. Disappointed that we failed to receive a full score because the cottage was too warm. We do like our guests to be warm and comfortable when they arrive at the cottage and we try to judge the weeks weather and set the heating accordingly. The Economy 7 storage heaters can be turned off from an electric switch next to the heater or, the output of heat can be turned down, or off from the top of the heater. We also leave our contact details at the cottage in case there are any questions or we are needed for anything at all. Such a shame you did not ring or message us, to ask that we turn the heating down or off for you. Property Owner

“Beautiful old cottage with lovely modern kitchen and bathrooms.”

Everything you could possibly need has been thought of and provided. Pretty garden that the children loved playing in. Shirley and Chris were very helpful, coming round within minutes of us ringing and altering the position of the stair gate up for us. They were very Covid aware and everything in the cottage was extremely clean and sparklingly. Very central for visiting this area of Cornwall. The cottage was very comfortable.We have been with Sykes for a number of years and we do expect a certain standard if choosing a five star cottage. This did meet our expectations of that standard and would thoroughly recommend Chanells to everyone.Chris and and Shirley texted a number of times to see if all was ok. “The cottage was very warm and comfortable and well equipped.”

We met Shirley and Chris, the owners, who called in the day after our arrival and to say goodbye before we departed. The weather was very good during our holiday and we managed to visit all the National Trust properties in the area and also spent an afternoon down on the beach at Church Cove, Gunwalloe. We had Sunday Lunch at the New Yard Restaurant at Trelowarren and visited Henleys in Helston for their very good value "Steak Night". We also visited the Slice café twice at Shirley and Chris's Homestead Gardens and they invited us along to view their other letting property which we did. We were very impressed with the smaller apartment which would be good for a shorter break. Maybe next year!

We had a fabulous holiday and would definitely use Cornish Cottage holidays again. One peculiar experience was on Tuesday a gentlemen came into the garden un-announced, didn't say hello to my mother who was standing by the open back door, he continued to spray the garden with a chemical for a short period of time and then left. We hadn't been told we'd have any trades visit or maintain the cottage while we were staying so it was very disconcerting to have him arrive and do what he needed to do. When he left my mother couldn't sit on the garden for a some time as the smell of the chemicals that had been used were too strong. If trades do need to visit the house, it would be nice to have them there when guests are not there or guests should be made aware that a tradesman will be calling, when, why and for how long.

Everything we needed was there. We met the owner of the holiday home at the Slice, which she also owns. A very nice place to go and eat and within walking distance of her Holiday Home. Same high level attention to detail and lovely food. It is out of the way a little, a car is a definite requirement. There is no wifi and phone signal is not great (for using mobiles) Although this sounds like a moan, it isn’t. Just an observation for clarity. Would we book again? Yes, without a doubt.

“Somewhat misleading to describe the property address as Porthleven.”

Helston would be more appropriate. It should also be made clear out that the property sits alongside the Redruth to Helston road. With windows open during the hot weather the traffic noise, if you are not used to it, is very disruptive. I left the holiday suffering from sleep deprivation. In all other respects, the property is faultless

The property

Chenalls boasts beautiful countryside views and is located within a fifteen minute drive of Porthleven which is set in the middle of a huge sweeping bay, the beach and bespoke shops are ideal for family days out. This spacious stone Cornish farmhouse offers comfort throughout.

Standing detached in a rural setting its interior displays the timeless charm of rustic fireplaces, exposed granite features, beamed ceilings, original timber panelled walls and latched doors which, complimented by a pleasing mix of antique and contemporary furnishings, extend a homely backdrop for a restful stay.

Entry is straight into the hall, off the hall is a utility area and shower room, through the hall into the modern light and bright kitchen and at the other end of the kitchen is a dining table for the family to gather around and enjoy a family meal.

Step up onto the fired earth floor tiles into a nicely appointed lounge warmed at each end by wood burning stoves that exude year round cosiness to add to your comfort.

A door leads out from the lounge onto a secluded and sheltered garden, with its own summer house, just the perfect setting for alfresco meals and barbecues.

Upstairs cream carpeted bedrooms are in keeping with the traditional character and coordinated fabrics on the tasteful ornate bedsteads add splashes of colour.

Children have freedom and space to play in the adjoining orchard or on land that extends down behind the farmhouse. Explore the inland and coastal footpaths and experience the exhilarating views from the granite cliff tops.

You can join the coastal footpath at Porthleven to experience some amazing coastal views.

Porthleven has everything you would want for a day out from the harbour, beach, bespoke shops, little cafes and pubs to fine restaurants, including Rick Stein.

You could also get on a boat for a spot of fishing and bring home your rewards for a fish supper.

Vibrant Penzance has something for everyone or enjoy a bite to eat or sample the fine Cornish ale at Marazion beach, overlooking the mystical St Michael's Mount with fortress pointing skywards.

Many south west and Atlantic coast resorts are within easy range and the golden beaches and hidden coves of the Lizard Peninsula along with a variety of attractions.

Helston lies at the western gateway to the Lizard Peninsula, a large area of downland fringed by a beautiful and spectacular coastline. Helston is a pleasant busy market town famous for it's Flora Day Festival and the many stories and legends about the "Furry Dance" are told in the fascinating Helston Folk Museum. Nestled in a tranquil setting is the National Seal Sanctuary on the Helford River, where there is plenty of entertainment watching seals play and feed. If it is thrill rides that excites you, then Flambards theme park will keep you amused all day and also has excellent living history experiences. Further afield is the harbour town of Falmouth to the east and Land's End to the west. Helston is a wonderful holiday destination offering plenty of attractions for the whole family. By car reach numerous outstanding beaches, including Porthleven Beach, Praa Sands Beach, and Gunwalloe Church Cove Beach, with Loe Bar offering a dog-friendly landscape, along with the chance to join the stunning Cornish coastal path.
