“Nice village ,attractive house , generally well equipped.”

There were two major issues: The central heating did not work at all . The house is old and built into the hillside , so a bit chilly in the evenings and damp . Having heating would have meant that this was not a problem . The shower in the en-suite bathroom alternated from cold to scalding hot , with no facility to alter it . There were two major issues: The central heating did not work at all . The house is old and built into the hillside , so a bit chilly in the evenings and damp . Having heating would have meant that this was not a problem . The shower in the en-suite bathroom alternated from cold to scalding hot , with no facility to alter it . This meant that my sister had to jump out of the shower and go into the other bathroom to finish washing. We reported both of these issues on our second day . The cleaner and her husband came round quickly to try to fix both , and thought they had done so , but in fact there was no improvement . They reported this back to the owner , who took no useful action , and did not communicate with us or with the cleaner about these problems during the rest of our stay .

The property

Settled into the beautiful riverside town of Gunnislake and surrounded by woodland, Tinners is a wonderful cottage ideal for two couples or a family looking for a rural retreat to Cornwall.

Park in the allocated spot before making your way into this charming property, where exposed beams add character and a sense of history.

Bare brick painted white complements the well-fitted green cupboards of the kitchen, a spacious area where guests can enjoy cooking together, and there is a fascinating ornamental woodburner within a central fireplace.

Through a corridor you will reach the living/dining space, an airy room where dark wooden floors stretch throughout and a welcoming woodburning stove encourages you to recline in one of the leather sofas with a good book, and here you will also find a dining table, raised from the sitting area, ideal for social mealtimes.

Climb the stone steps to find two lovely bedrooms, including a king-size bedroom with a contemporary en-suite and a king-size zip-link with river views, alongside a contemporary bathroom with a bath and walk-in shower, ideal for warming up after a day spent exploring the countryside.

Outside, there is a raised decking area great for enjoying a glass of your favourite beverage beside a pretty cherry tree.

Tinners is located on the main road through the village but boasts direct access to the village from the rear entrance, making access to the village extremely handy, avoiding the main road.

The local town of Gunnislake has a great selection of pubs and eateries, as well as convenience stores where you can stock up on essentials.

Enjoy a meal out at The Rising Sun, where you may be able to enjoy a music night or recline in the beer garden in the sunshine.

There is a selection of independent shops, and Gunnislake Mountainbiking for a more action-packed adventure.

Walks can be had along the scenic River Tamar, with trails weaving into the trees, and there are many more walks and places to spot wildlife within the Tamar Valley AONB.

For beautiful riverside walks and charming buildings, visit Tavistock, a lovely historic market town with its ancient pannier market, or enjoy a walk through Denham Bridge.

Driving towards Callington, you will find Kits Hill, a former granite quarry and mining site that offers spectacular views of Dartmoor, Bodmin Moor and Plymouth, with parking for visitors and marked walks to explore.

More activities, amenities and seaside views, head over to Plymouth, beside which you will find National Trust Plymbridge Woods, a marine aquarium, and a local golf course.

History lovers can enjoy a visit to Cotehele, a medieval house with Tudor additions run by the National Trust, or Quayside Mining Museum to learn more about the local history and heritage.

Immerse yourself in the beautiful countryside of Cornwall with a stay at the picturesque Tinners.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £200.
