“Delightful accommodation, which very much benefits from the owner maintaining the property as a ‘home from home’.”

The cottage’s central location in the village is perfect for accessing the much-loved and well-managed community shop as well as The Blisland Inn, which is an absolute gem of a pub serving top drawer beer and classic ‘pub grub’ - the cottage is also well-placed for days out across the whole county. Great to be back in Blisland after a gap of too many years - loved it!

“A delightful cottage, peaceful location, friendly village.”

The cottage was equipped with absolutely everything you could possibly need. So welcoming! Plus when we arrived, fresh garden flowers and a tray ready for us to make tea. The beds were really comfortable, the living room too. We felt at home as soon as our bags were unpacked. And were sad to leave. Very much hope to return soon.

Loved the location in the small village of Blisland. Good pub in walking distance even for people with mobility issues like myself. Lovely little shop staffed by friendly locals. The only thing I would say is if you’re not good on stairs without a handrail to hold on to then you may struggle.

“A lovely well-kept cottage in a very peaceful location.”

Very handy pub across the green (which we had visited a few times before a few years ago) and our dog loved the green just outside the cottage door where she could play each day with her beloved ball. A good shop and cafe just a short walk down the road and we found the locals to be friendly too.

“Cottage is a lovely location but very damp.”

Having a 3 month old baby with us, this spoilt our holiday as the cottage smelt very strongly of damp and the dehumidifier had to be emptied several times a day. On reporting the issue to HH we had a very negative and dismissive response and then eventually a visit where our concerns were pretty much dismissed. The cottage was then accessed on several occasions without our knowledge or permission when our possessions were in the cottage which really is not acceptable, no offer of an alternative was made or any sort of recompense. We ended up having to move down to Lavethan were the rest of our family was staying. Having stayed in many helpful holiday cottages in Cornwall and Devon over the last 10 years I am really shocked that the 1st tine we have an issue we are dismissed with no resolution. Its not what we or our family would expect and we are so disappointed that the 1st holiday we have been able to have as a family ended up being spoilt by accommodation that wasnt really fit for purpose especially when there is a new baby in the party.

We are sorry to hear of your concerns and would like to clarify some of the points you have raised, as comments of this nature have not previously been raised in feedback. When notified of the issue initially we took this seriously and asked you to submit photographs and then contacted the owner of Churchgate Cottage. We then arranged a visit with members of our Quality Assurance team. We did not access the property without your knowledge, you met with members of our Quality Assurance team by prior arrangement with you. Following this visit, the housekeeper attended the property to check the storage heaters were working correctly and found that they had been turned down - once she adjusted this they worked normally (there were also other heaters and an electric fire available for your use). The Quality Assurance report found no evidence to suggest that the property was damp and therefore no reason to offer an alternative property or recompense. Property Owner

“Amazing stay at Churchgate Cottage from our tea tray complete with mince pies on arrival to the wonderful support we received from Maureen,Lorraine and Mrs Jennings who amazingly arranged a new oven ,ftted and working within hours when the existing one gave up on us .”

also taking our leg of lamb to the pub whilst we were out of action cooking to perfection and returning in time to tea.all within two days of Christmas. They really were wonderful.with a complimentary meal at the pub as way of an apology for the inconvenience .totally not needed but greatly appreciated. The villagers were lovely ,very welcoming for both us and our dog Molly who welcomed her treats. Would we like to return ? With out a doubt .The cottage was perfect in every way Many thanks for a

Great food at the local pub which was just across the Green from the Cottage. The Camel Trail was close by for lots of walks. Would highly recommend this Cottage.

The cottage was superb, brilliantly situated, and had everything we needed for a quick 3-night stay near Bodmin. The information pack in the cottage was excellent. Our dog was very comfortable too!

“My wife and i had a very relaxing and enjoyable week at the cottage, the arrangements on arrival are easy to follow, the cottage is well equipped, cosy and excellent value for money, the village is safe , clean and friendly with an excellent community shop and a pub, both greet visitors with a smile.”

I would highly recommend both the cottage and area as its easy to drive to both east and west coasts, Eden project and other attractions all within a short drive away.

“Had a great time and generally loved the cottage.”

Some of the kitchen utensils were dirty which is why we did not give top marks for cleanliness The only thing that lets the cottage down is the complete lack of any private outdoor space. This is not made clear in the listing, it is simply not mentioned. We had glorious weather and just the ability to sit outside with a glass of wine or a cuppa would have made this perfect. It was for these reasons it was not 10’s across the board.

“Cottage was lovely.”

A classic Cornish cottage. Was bit further away from beaches than we wanted but that is my failing to account for the small roads. The communication with you however was slow and disappointing. I have been emailing and calling since May about extending the stay as the cottage Was not booked the day before we arrived. I did not actually get a response until a week prior to arrival and by that point I had booked a local B&B. I sent the email chain and names of those I spoke to and that was still Unknown when I speak to the next person. I was happy to pay for an extra night. A real shame. Your response to emails and calls could be improved and keep records of calls so that the customer doesn’t need to start all over again every time!

“It was a lovely ancient cottage in the beautiful village of Blisalnd.”

Highly commend the efforts of volunteers to keep the community shop and P.O. going and the incredible friendliness of everyone including the Blisalnd Inn. Just one note; it was difficult to get enough hot water for a reasonable bath even after using the boost switch. After a lot of walking, that would have been appreciated. In the centre of Blisland, a 17th century cottage adjoining the original village school (1842), now the little used village institute, and next to the church (acclaimed in Betjeman's poetry).

It looks over the pretty village green (benches), and is within sight of the good pub on the far side of the green and a short stroll from the shop/internet café.

Inside, cosy and comfortable.

Open-plan living/dining/kitchen (dishwasher, washer-drier, microwave, freezer, fridge, electric cooker) with beams, slate floor (rugs), big fireplace (electric 'flame-effect' fire), Smart TV and view of the green.

Upstairs, two bedrooms - a double looking over the green, and a single looking over the church and churchyard; bathroom (suite, shower over bath).

No children under 5, except pre-crawling babies.

A welcoming little cottage in a pretty village with excellent walking from the door.

BLISLAND

Bodmin 5.7 miles; Wadebridge 8.4 miles; Polzeath 13.2 miles; Tintagel 13.8 miles; Padstow 16 miles; Fowey 17.2 miles.

Situated under the western edge of granite-bound Bodmin Moor, the village of Blisland retains its age old character and is the only village in Cornwall to have a village green with trees. Around the green, cluster old houses and cottages, as well as the famous, award-winning Blisland Inn. The village is located less than three miles from the A30, and so provides an ideal central location for touring Cornwall. Nearby, Poley’s Bridge marks the beginning of the Camel Trail, a 17-mile long route, which follows a long disused old steam engine railway line to Padstow. The route is completely traffic-free and perfect for walkers and cyclists. You can even explore the trail on horseback and a purpose-built hide has been constructed between Wadebridge and Padstow, so even birdwatchers are catered for! Pull on your walking boots and explore Bodmin Moor, or venture to the coast with your buckets and spades and enjoy a day on one of the many beautiful beaches that stretch along Cornwall’s northern coastline.
