    “Hideaway is an amazing property.”

You have everything you need. We have stayed several times, and keep going back. It’s peaceful and quiet. If you need to get away from it all and just relax, Hideaway will not disappoint. We would like to thank the owners Tara and Phil for giving us so many memorable holidays. Rob & Karen.

The property

A fabulous retreat for two, The Hideaway has serious wow factor.

Part of a beautifully converted Grade II listed barn, the lofty interior is simply incredible.

Put your feet up in front of the wood burning stove in the magnificent open plan living space and sleep in an enormous superking size bed on the galleried mezzanine above.

For sheer indulgence you can sip champagne in the freestanding bath which sits majestically in the centre of the bedroom.

A little terrace beside the ornamental pond is perfect for sunny breakfasts and there is also an orchard leading to a paddock which are shared with the owners who live in the adjacent barn. The Hideaway sits within the grounds of the former landed Figg-Hoblyn estate and a walk through the nearby woodland will reveal the ruins of the manor house, left to rack and ruin after a family dispute; in fact the heir to the estate has never been found after disappearing to America during the Second World War.

Off the beaten track, this a lovely quiet spot yet it is only three miles to the north coast at Watergate Bay giving you the best of both worlds; absolute peace and quiet within easy reach of coastal life.

Other nearby beaches include Fistral, Porth, Holywell Bay and Mawgan Porth.

For watersports the Extreme Academy at Watergate Bay cannot be beaten with everything from kite surfing to waveskiing to hand planing (no we didn't know what it was either).

If you would rather be relaxing then a spot of spa pampering can be arranged at The Watergate Bay, Bedruthan Steps or Scarlet Hotel, all of which are within a few miles.

Foodies should head to Rick Stein at Padstow or Nathan Outlaw at Port Isaac, both of which you will need to book in advance, failing that there is a good foodie pub less than a mile away.

To top it all off the owners provide a delicious cream tea on arrival plus logs for the wood burner. For larger groups we also let the adjoining property The Lost Barn (ref 1662) which sleeps 4.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £200.

About the location

WATERGATE BAY

Newquay 4 miles; Newquay Airport 1.5 miles.

The peaceful destination of Watergate Bay is home to a few cottages, a couple of hotels on the headland, a fantastic beachside bistro and an extreme sports/surf school, placing the bay in a class of its own. Viewed as one of Cornwall’s best surfing beaches, Watergate Bay also offers sand yachting, paragliding, kite surfing, cliff climbing, and abseiling. The area is a favourite with walkers, with the South West Coast Path extending west toward Newquay and east to Padstow, through some of the county’s most dramatic coastal scenery. Newquay, with its lively resort attractions, shops, bars, zoo and Sea Life Centre is just four miles away, whilst the picturesque town of Padstow, with its famous seafood restaurants and beautiful harbour area, make a great day out. The world-renowned Eden Project, the National Maritime Museum at Falmouth and the Cathedral city of Truro, with its cobbled streets, restaurants, museums and theatre are all within easy reach, as are several stately homes and outstanding gardens. Peace and tranquillity are assured in this beautiful area with roaring surf, great beaches and much to see and do right on the doorstep.
