“This is the second time I’ve stayed at Lee Barton holiday cottages but the first time in the farmhouse.”

The farmhouse is well equipped with beautiful views over a valley and when we stayed was very quiet and peaceful. As the details state the shower is over the bath. The bath is quite high sided and would benefit from a grab rail to assist both children and the older person when getting in and out. The heating was from night storage heaters and not particularly effective even prior to winter (a very chilly end of September) and there was no heating in the large hallway outside the bathroom, in the bathroom itself or in the downstairs hallway or kitchen which you need to be aware of if planning a winter visit. The farm is accessed via the very narrow lanes (a car width only) that are common in this area. There are limited passing places although we managed not to meet any traffic although this was simply good luck. Tractors use these lanes and the day we were leaving we had to assist a lorry driver who was attempting to reverse into a very narrow opening. If you aren’t confident driving in these conditions this is not for you. If you are it’s a delightful area with Duck Pool bay only about a mile away (a short pleasant stroll) and easy access to the towns and villages of both Devon and Cornwall. Bonus, if you like cats, is Rebel who is exceptionally friendly and enjoys sitting outside the window in the sun although he will stroll in if given the opportunity!

The Lee Barton Farmhouse is located in the Cornish town of Woodford on a working farm.

With window seats, exposed beams, and a roaring open fire, this historic farmhouse still has a lot of its charm to offer families and guests.

When you get there, park your car in the off road parking spot before entering inside to the porch, where you can leave your boots after a long journey.

With an electric oven and cooktop, microwave, fridge/freezer, washing machine, and dishwasher, the white glossy kitchen provides everything you could possibly need.

A hearty lunch can be enjoyed at the dining table, followed by a trip to the living room where you can relax on the sofa and watch TV.

Visit the lawned garden on a sunny day to take in the furnishings and large, shady trees that are perfect for lounging.

As the day turns to night, retire inside and head upstairs, where you can pick between a double or twin bedroom, both of which have ample storage to hold your possessions.

Before exploring your remote surroundings, revive your eyes in the bathroom on the first floor with a soak in the bath or a shower.

Enter the historic village of Kilkhampton for your necessities, where you can find local shops and bars where you can relax with a pint.

About the location

BUDE

Tintagel 17 miles.

Kilkhampton is an historic Cornish village, 4 miles from the popular Victorian seaside resort of Bude, one of Cornwall’s premier holiday locations. With its old church, village shops and atmospheric village pubs, Kilkhampton is a lovely place to relax after a hard day exploring the stunning beaches and spectacular coastal scenery for which the area is famous. Bude’s beaches attract surfers from all over the country and when conditions are right you’d be hard pushed to find better surf. When the tide is out, miles of golden sand and hundreds of rock pools keep visitors occupied for hours. The South West Coast Path, and many other rights-of-way winding over the clifftops and through lush green fields looking out over the sea, make this area a haven for walkers and lovers of the open countryside. For those who prefer staying closer to home, a good shopping centre and a selection of pubs, two clubs and restaurants are on offer. Bude canal, a registered nature reserve, passes through the town, and rowing a boat along its calm waters or walking the towpath among the beautiful (and friendly) water fowl that live among the reeds is a great way to spend an hour or two. Within the area there are also 2 golf courses, an indoor swimming pool, bowling alley at the leisure centre. A perfect location for all that North Cornwall has to offer.
