The property

Head along quiet hedge-rowed lanes, close to the stunning coast and golden beaches at Falmouth, to discover this rustic retreat designed for couples, families and pure escapism.

Halvosso is one of four traditional quarryman's cottages situated in the leafy hamlet of Halvasso which is peaceful and secluded yet only a mile from the main road to Falmouth and Truro.

A comfortable cottage with a timeless charm, an enclosed and well screened sun-trap garden, warming wood burner and tantalising views over the surrounding countryside towards the sea at Falmouth Bay from the first floor. Plunge into rural bliss on scenic walks from the front door with dog in tow or head for the coast path.

The vibrant resort of Falmouth is less than a 10 minute drive, offering safe beaches, the National Maritime Museum, art galleries, independent shops, restaurants, bars and cafes as well as access to the superb sailing waters of the River Fal and Carrick Roads.

A little farther afield are the beautiful creeks and woodlands of the romantic Helford River.

Hire a motor boat, kayak or dinghy and explore the area on water.

The hidden coves and charismatic fishing villages of the Lizard Peninsula are close and the stunning sub-tropical Trebah and Glendurgan Gardens are well worth a visit.

The ancient town of Penryn, which is the recognised home to the Combined University of Cornwall, is a 10 minute drive and a good place to stock up on provisions with extensive retail facilities. Renovated to a high standard from top to toe, the warm and welcoming owners, who live in the farmhouse across the lane, have thought of everything.

Inside quality, comfort and informality combine.

Natural light floods into the sitting dining room putting a spotlight on a substantial wood burner set in a large granite inglenook fireplace, rug topped polished oak floor and squashy brown leather settees.

The kitchen is country style and well equipped for keen chefs.

Eat at the elegant dining table or dine alfresco in the delightful garden which is well screened from view and safe for children and canine companions.

(Pets are very welcome here and there is an enclosed meadow neighbouring the owners farmhouse that is perfect for exercising dogs.) Head upstairs to a spacious master bedroom with dreamy far reaching coast and country views, a small, snug twin bedroom which children love and a spotless bathroom for washing away sandy toes after a day on the coast.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £100.

About the location

PENRYN

Falmouth 6 mile; Truro 9 miles.

One of the oldest market towns in Cornwall, the pretty port of Penryn boasts a wealth of historic architecture and harbour heritage with attractive granite buildings steeply sloping along the cobbled streets down to the sea. There’s a good choice of restaurants, cafes and pubs in the town, along with a museum offering free entry, and the tranquil Enys Gardens on the outskirts of the town, providing a range of grounds and a peaceful haven. Further along the Penryn River, just one mile towards the sea you’ll find the famous seaport of Falmouth, with a host of things to keep you entertained including harbour-side pubs and eateries offering spectacular views, stunning Blue Flag beaches and a bustling town centre. Visit the National Maritime Museum for a taste of Cornwall’s sea-faring history, or the fine Tudor fortress of Pendennis Castle, superb set gazing out to sea. You don’t have to venture far from Penryn to discover Cornwall’s many sights, delights and stunning coastline, and this is the perfect character base from which to see it all.
