“We had a wonderful week’s stay at Higher Hill House.”

The house was very well equipped and met our needs perfectly. We had a problem with the shower that the owner fixed straight away - a great response. Local maps and guides in the property, as well as the owners’ recommendations were very helpful too.

The property

Higher Hill House is a listed historic Cornish Longhouse, and can be found in a beautiful, secluded position on the outskirts of Crackington Haven, in the midst of the Cornish countryside.

The original dairy holes in the snug and the hay loft for animal food above the utility room are reminders that this lovely holiday home was once the main farmhouse for the surrounding fields, making it a truly unique and characterful setting for families eager to explore the wonders of Cornwall.

The dog-friendly, whitewashed cottage has an enclosed front and back garden, several endearing original features like exposed beams, original slate flag stone flooring and A-frames, and a fantastic location near both the coast and the countryside.

As you step through the front door of your temporary dwelling, your ears will immediately be greeted by the soothing sound of a woodburning stove crackling away.

Relax here before heading into the well-equipped kitchen to whip up some delicious meals for the whole family to enjoy in the roomy dining room, which was formerly the barn.

If the weather is nice, why not enjoy your meal outside or fire up the barbecue?

At the end of the day, you can rest in one of the five bedrooms after freshening up in the bathroom or the ground-level shower room.

You can pick from two kings, a double, a twin, or king room on the ground floor.

The heart of Crackington Haven is a great place to spend the day exploring the beautiful coastline, taking in the breath-taking views of the sea, and starting a hike along the 630-mile South West Coast Path.

The nearby village of Boscastle is worth a visit for its harbour and the former site of Bottreaux Castle, or keep on to Bude, where you may enjoy a wide variety of independently run stores, eateries, and bars like Life's A Beach and Sea Fever.

Additionally, you may visit The Castle Bude, take in the breathtaking sea views from Compass Point, or test the waters at Bude Sea Pool, a semi-natural tidal pool on the Atlantic Ocean's shoreline that is ideal for wild swimming.

The idyllic Bodmin Moors and the Bodmin Jail Attraction await you inland, or you can brush up on local history at the Bodmin Town Museum.

Make cherished memories at Higher Hill House.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £100.

About the location

CRACKINGTON HAVEN

Boscastle 6 miles.

Crackington Haven is a charming cove near Boscastle, with a mix of rockpools, a sandy beach and good surf. There are two beach shops and cafes, which are wonderful to relax in and look out over the blue seas of the bay. Walking this section of the South West Coast Path, much of it owned by the National Trust, offers dramatic views, a host of wildflowers and an undulating terrain. Just along the coast is the quaint village of Boscastle, with gift shops, local restaurants and pubs offering good food, Cornish real ales and live entertainment by local musicians, making this an ever-popular visitor destination. The sandy beaches of Bossiney and Trebarwith Strand are within a short drive, as are the surfing beaches at Bude and Polzeath. Close at hand lies Tintagel, swathed in the legend of King Arthur, as well as several stately homes and renowned gardens, or the wide open space of Bodmin Moor, famous for its granite tors and Daphne Du Maurier’s Jamaica Inn.
