“The overall condition of the cottage was fairly good and we enjoyed our stay.”
However, there were some maintenance issues which let it down. Nothing that caused us to make a complaint or call in anyone, but in short...
1. Taps in both the bath and kitchen wobbled about they were so loose.
2. Doors and windows were poorly fitted and blew the blinds even when closed.
3. There didn't seem to be a way to have a bedroom window open for ventilation but keep it locked open safely at the same time, for security. "Luckily" for the above reason, we had enough ventilation as it was.
4. On our last day there was a storm and it got quite cold. We found that despite following the instructions to the letter, we could not get the heating to work whatsoever. Made worse by the windows letting in the occasional gust of wind. We have the same heating controller at home, so couldn't understand this. The hot water was great though and always piping hot.
5. The lock on the front door was "twitchy" and took some clever key-work for it to lock and unlock.
6. Baking trays and other items in the kitchen clearly hadn't been cleaned in some time, with oily marks on them. Not too much of an issue as we mostly ate out.
7. Spider webs in lounge and bedroom suggested the cleaning was not up to much.
8. We felt the fridge was too small for a cottage able to house four people. We were only two and could barely manage to get the essentials all in.
Don't get me wrong, we have a high tolerance for minor inconveniences, but you asked for our feedback so here it is. This really was fine for us for a week and not too expensive, but attention to a few little things and it could have been really good.
