“We had a lovely week in this beautiful place.”

The weather was terrible but Seagull's Pearch let us dry off and warm up - and enjoy a glass of wine with a view of the sea from the settee. Arriving and unloading the car was easy as you park literally just outside the front door. We will be back - hopefully next year.

The property

On a private lane, looking down over the beach in Mawgan Porth, a semi-detached, custom-built, split-level house with superb beach/sea views.

A gravelled path leads to paved area (useful for storing surfboards and drying wetsuits), from which 6 steps down to decked terrace (table/chairs) with sea views.

Beach (steep footpath), 300 yards; hotel restaurant/bar, 200 yards. Large kitchen/dining room (slimline dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, fridge-freezer, gas hob/electric oven) open to living room with TV/DVD, that superb elevated view over the beach, and balustrade; loo.

Stairs (stairgate) down to two bedrooms - a double (5' bed) with en suite shower-room (suite), sea views (balustrade) and external steps down to the terrace, and another double with day bed and en suite shower-room (suite).

Excellent, contemporary accommodation. Mawgan Porth: village of mostly modern houses, pub, restaurants, deli, wine bar, hotels, surf school and beach shops clustered around a beautiful cove of soft sand.

Good for bodyboarding/surfing.

More magnificent beaches and international facilities for surfing at Newquay (airport), 3 miles.

Golf and pony-trekking nearby.

Watergate Bay (watersports school, Wax Watergate Bay restaurant and The Venus Café), 3½ miles.

About the location

MAWGAN PORTH

Watergate Bay 2 miles; Newquay 5 miles; Padstow 10 miles.

Nestled between Newquay and Padstow on the beautiful north Cornish coast, Mawgan Porth is a sheltered cove with golden sandy beach, great surf and plenty of caves and coastal footpath to explore. With little distraction from its golden sands, life here revolves around the beach. Laze in the summer sun, learn to ride the waves, or watch over stormy seas on a refreshing cliff top stroll. Mawgan Porth is also home to the fabulous adults-only Scarlet Hotel, which offers Spa treatments and facilities to non-residents - and nearby there is a wealth of fine dining restaurants such as Paul Ainsworth's No 6 and Rick Stein's Seafood Restaurant. Mawgan Porth has a handful of shops, including a village store and deli, and a farm shop selling locally sourced meat, eggs, vegetables, bread and pasties, as well as tennis courts, a pitch and putt, and an 18-hole golf course overlooking the Atlantic.
