The property was comfortable and well equipped down to little things like supplying hand soap in the bathrooms. The walk from the village is arduous but as we love mevagissey it's worth it.

The one downside is we enjoy walking and one of the only ways to go to the harbour was up/down a very steep road (25% hill). You could drive 4 minutes to Pentewan beach, which is great if you wanted a dog free beach. Around the corner is Polstreath beach, which is down some 175 steps to get to the beach,which is secluded and lovely.

Warm, quiet, home from home comforts. Parking space for one car, and nice enclosed garden, with privacy. No real dog walks close by, so take a torch for you and your dog is my suggestion if at nighttime due to narrow roads and vehicles, when walking on any roads. Highly recommend this property for warmth and comfort.

Kirsty “This is a lovely place to stay, very spacious, well equipped and perfectly situated to explore Mevagissey and surrounding areas.”
The bungalow is lovely and warm with lots of books and games if you find yourself stuck in on a rainy day. The hosts are nearby and always on hand if you need them, but we didn't everything was good. Highly reccomend the Ship Inn, The chip shop and fudge shop in Mevagissey and there's a lovely little park with a stream too. We would definitely return it been a lovely relaxing stay. Thank you.

Carol “We have stayed in Mevagissey many times but this is the first time we’ve rented a house for the family.”
Harlyn was everything we could wish for. Spotlessly clean and comfortable with everything provided, a real home from home. The secure garden is beautiful and safe for dogs. On arrival we found a welcome pack of goodies, plus milk and wine in the fridge. There is off-road parking for 2 cars. Vicarage Hill is very steep, so a walk to the village is ok going down, but walking up is only an option for the fit and healthy! We did a circular walk, down Vicarage Hill, around the harbour and back via the coast path which is not quite so steep. About 2.5 miles round, with spectacular sea views and plenty of places to stop and catch your breath! The council car park in the centre of village is free after 4pm each day, and we made good use of that. There are lots of pubs, cafes and restaurants, many of them dog friendly, and we had tea at the Ship Inn on several evenings. We were surprised and very pleased to find 2 small bakeries (Martins and Mary’s) that sold freshly made gluten free products. Mr Grey is very friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome. We would definitely book this property again.

Our holiday property was bright and roomy, with plenty of books and games for the rainy days, even though every day was sunny. The garden was an oasis of calm after a hard days traipsing around the coast. The walks and views around the this part of the country are truly inspirational. Totally enjoyed staying there, place has everything and more you could want. Perfect owners just near if need of anything to be very helpful. Lovely to walk around the area, though be prepared for hills. If you get the right weather its just nice to sit in the garden hear the birds singing. Lots of places to visit also without too much travelling. Plenty of doggo friendly beaches and places to eat. Thank you for making our stay lovely

It is a lovely house with loads of space so you can choose not to be on top of each other if you want. The owners live nearby so any issues can be resolved really quickly, not that we had any. The location is also great, 5-10 minute walk from Mevagissey Harbour, maybe a 20 minute walk back up a steep hill though. I would recommend this property and would definitely go back myself.

This accommodation has everything you could wish for and is a real home from home. Comfy beds, great kitchen and fridge freezer and book end conservatories! The private garden is lovely & very peaceful in the evenings. Fabulous after a long day out exploring & thoroughly recommend eating al fresco and chilling with a glass of wine (or two) in the summerhouse! It even has a raised terrace with a large platform for some morning yoga (should you be so inclined). A great central location to explore the East Coast of Cornwall, with plenty of sightseeing, coves, beaches and coastal walking in both directions. Just one word of advice: the walk down Vicarage Hill to the harbour is easy enough but the climb back up again should carry a government health warning!!!!!

We had a really good stay at Harlyn. Lots of space in the rooms. The garden was very nice and the summer house added to the options. One of our dogs discovered that the garden was not fully enclosed but it was a wonderful resource for them, with lots of interesting features. It is very well placed for visiting attractions and there are lovely beaches fairly close with good options for dogs at this time of year or just to enjoy the Cornish sands.

Richard “This was our first holiday for a long time and we were really looking forward to a break.”
The village is nice, lots of nice places to eat. The hill is very steep being a challenge both up and down but great for keeping fit! The bungalow itself is tired and very dated with lots of trinkets in random places and needs attention. The kitchen is poorly equipped, very old cooker, limited crockery and cooking utensils so don’t expect to be able to cook properly. Tiny fridge and a small freezer in the conservatory, which also contains 6 chairs and a very small garden table. Didn’t have a function as a room, and summed up the feel of the place. Some attention to slim down the eclectic hand me down feel of the place is recommended - this would make it feel more welcoming and a practical homely space. Upgrading the kitchen is also recommended. We didn’t need 3 glass vases and 3 glass ornaments on one window sill, tankards on the shelves and 10 different one of glasses to use - all gathering dust! No one set of anything that could be used in practical terms. The whole place felt full and a bit of a storage home for stuff. Garden is nice, and lots of places to sit, flat, private and comfy. Owners are really kind and put biscuits and wine in for us and explained different places to go and how to walk into town - nice touch and really kind people. The place is very dated and felt sad and it made it difficult to enjoy being in it. Small touches which “could” have been nice like providing a kitchen roll and wipes, but these were the most basic poor quality and not useable - either up the standard or leave them out. Also bring your own toilet rolls, 1 super thin roll was provided per bathroom for a family of 5, and bring your own towels - we had one hand towel per bathroom plus one shower towel each person for the week. These felt like cost cutting measures, and as we shower daily it meant we had to wash the towels and ended up buying some extras from the supermarket to make it easier for ourselves. On arrival we had to dust and wipe things down surfaces and clean behind doors - the cleaners attention to detail was lacking. The front steps are slippy when wet and has an overgrown hedge on them meaning you have to walk the narrow steps at an angle, this needs attention and could be dangerous. Some cleaning equipment would also be nice for a week to keep things tidy and is a worthwhile investment (it did have pegs and a line though). As a base it’s ok, it has potential and these recommendations could really make the guest experience much better. The area is a really quiet no through road and within minutes of the coastal path for walking. We wouldn’t return because it lacked the things we would call essentials in a property and was a really full house which meant it felt like we were staying in someone’s lived in house rather than a holiday home.

Paul “Harlyn was much larger than we had expected and incredibly light and airy, presumably due to it's location near the top of the hill.”
The garden was beautiful. We were amazed at the number of chairs, in the lounge, the dining area, the sun room, the conservatory, the summer house and the two levels of the garden. All the comforts of home are provided. Mevagissey was only 15 minutes walk away but the hill is very steep and not for the faint hearted! If driving I recommend using the main road down to the harbour but go early as the car parks seem to fill up quickly

Bit of a steep hill for walkers to get there though especially on the way back, but we managed with a double buggy! The cottage itself is cosy, well kept and has very useful facilities to feel right at home. The electric fire and heated towel rails came in handy for drying our clothes after washing them. All in all a very comfortable visit and a very cosy little cottage to stay in.

Robert “We're seasoned travellers in Cornwall and also veterans of renting holiday cottages, with that experience we would say that Harlyn rates highly in many respects of what the average couple or family would want out of a holiday home for a week or two.”
It is a comfortable house with lots of seating options both inside and in the well cared for garden. The familiar scourge of Cornish seaside villages is narrow access roads and lack of resonable parking next to the holiday home, this is not an issue at Harlyn. The WiFi was reliable and had a decent signal strength. The house owners live very close by and are both friendly and accomodating, e.g. we asked to enter the house early to drop of perishable supplies into the fridge and freezer and this was no problem. The less positive is that the kitchen is relatively small and although the built in refridgerator is adequate it is not big enough to take a full week's supplies, mostly necessarily bought ~7 miles away at St Austell's supermarkets, especially if you want to get lots of cold drinks in there as well. There is a freezer out in the adjacent conservatory and it would improve things if this was a fridge/freezer. We are keen hikers and being away from home for over 2 weeks we needed to use the washing machine which works fine but did not offer a drying option; we had great sunny weather with a breeze so drying outside was not a problem. A damp week could give a family some challenges. Access to the house is via relatively narrow slate steps or less steps and a concrete path, the less fit, elderly and infirm would find these difficult with luggage. Mevagissey's pubs and shops are at least a 10 minute hike away down steep hills whichever of 4 possible pedestrian routes you take, add another 5 minutes for the return trip. Notwithstanding the debatable points on what business and customers feel is value for money, Harlyn is good value, however, Mevagissey has evolved into a "pricey" seaside holiday town (as have many other resorts throughout the UK) and food, and most especially costs for drinks at pubs and restaurants, are high such that what were once very lively and sociable pubs right up to closing time are now relatively quiet after the main food sevice period is over at ~9.00 PM. If you have never been, don't let any of the above put you off, Mevagissey and the coastal walks and sights within 15 miles are not to be missed, just go self catering and buy your food and drink from the supermarkets.

I travelled with my 93 year old, partially sighted, mother and getting to and from the bungalow was a major issue each day. I really think this should be clearly stated. Other than that the accommodation was great, very comfortable and clean and for more mobile people would be great.

The accommodation is huge and worked very well for two couples and two dogs. There was so much room for people to ‘do their own thing’, either in the lounge, sunroom, garden or summerhouse. We had the rear doors open all the time we were at home and the dogs just came and went in and out of the Cornish sunshine as they pleased. Beds were comfy, kitchen had everything you could need, plus lots of comfy seating, books, games etc. Beaches in the area are to die for, especially Crantock Beach. We had a very relaxing week and did not need to drive far to find some lovely places. Can’t recommend enough, thank you

Dinning room table is supposed to seat 5 we where struggling to seat 4 when had company, on the up side the beds were comfortable, and the garden was nice but lacked sun loungers, kitchen was on the small side and lacked equipment We thought it was rather expensive for what we got, in comparison to other cottages we have rented.

I loved Harlyn - it was very spacious and the garden was the nicest of any holiday cottage I've stayed in. The rooms were very comfortable and clean and I especially liked the conservatory and sun room. We had a wonderful time exploring nearby beaches such as Caerhays, and there was lots more of interest within an easy driving distance too. We liked it so much that I've just booked a week there again for next year and I am very much looking forward to it.

Mevagissey is a very beautiful fishing town, very friendly, and dogs are welcome in most shops and eating places. Many business owners have water bowls outside for dogs to drink from. We and our dog Snoopy were made to feel extremely welcome both In our accommodation and in Mevagissey and the other areas of Cornwall we visited. We are definitely going back next year.

For a complete contrast of scenery, within a short drive of this Mevagissey cottage are a number of gardens to explore, including the Lost Gardens of Heligan, the exotic blooms at the Eden Project and the charming woodlands of Caerhays Castle.
Families will love to visit the various attractions in the area from the Shipwreck Centre in romantic Charlestown to the Wheal Martyn china clay museum and the World of Model Railways.

MEVAGISSEY
St. Austell 5.5 miles; Truro 16 miles.
The perfect Cornish fishing village, with winding cobbled streets and a picturesque harbour full of boats. Stunning walks lead along the coast in both directions, with sandy beaches, high cliffs and hidden coves to explore. The village has an excellent selection of pubs and restaurants, whilst just up the road are the Lost Gardens of Heligan. A ferry from Mevagissey to Fowey also runs daily between Easter and September. Spend some time at the Tall Ships harbour at Charlestown (7 miles) with its shipwreck museum, or among the tropical biomes of the world-famous Eden Project (11 miles). The stunning coastline, fabulous beaches and renowned gardens of the beautiful Roseland Peninsula are a short drive down the coast while Truro, with its shops, restaurants, theatre and cathedral can be reached by car in half an hour.
