“Spotlessly clean and goodies left for us were very much appreciated.”

The cottage is in a beautiful spot, very quiet and peaceful. No shop nearby for morning paper! Took us a while to get the TV working, after contacting the owner he soon came and sorted it for us. All good at Waterside.

“I want to stress that we had a really lovely stay at the property however, we did have to do some cleaning on arrival and I felt this could’ve been allot better.”

For example, I had to hoover the ground floor as there was sand in lounge and garden room, and muck on the floor in the kitchen. We also found the bathrooms to not be as clean as we would expect and it felt as if the cottage hadn’t had anyone in for sometime, due to cobwebs and several spiders in places. There is also considerable damp on the ground floor in the entrance way and bathroom and being the owner of an old property I know this happens but I feel this needs addressing. Generally the property felt quite used and unloved, which I am sure isn’t the case. But we had a wonderful time overall in Cornwall.

“The whole set--up worked well and there were no surprises.”

As non-smokers, we had not considered whether we could or could not smoke in the house. When we first opened the front, then inner door, stale smoke hit us. With all windows and doors open, it subsided. But each time we returned, same thing. The spiral staircase was a little alarming, as it creaked and seemed to wobble when on it. Overall, the house is peaceful and calm. The little road is well laid.out and the gentle rolling views work their magic. The terrace is perfect. With the creek whispering and the trees swaying quietly, we felt a long way from.our.daily routines and this is exactly what was needed. We could find plenty of hustle and bustle in eg Padstow, loving returning to our cottage for the space and tranquility it provided. Thank you all, very good value too!

It's a homely and welcoming cottage, very comfy, well-appointed and stocked with everything that you need. Fabulous location, overlooking the creek, and the decking is a real sun trap in the mornings. The Beach Hut room is a real plus. We loved the walk into Padstow along the Saints' Way, straight from the front door, and Little Petherick is in a perfect location to explore North Cornwall. Highly recommended.

“The perfect little property in an idyllic setting if you're looking for somewhere away from the bustle of the main coastal resorts, yet close enough to spend time on the coast.”

The cream team welcome pack was a lovely touch. Clean, uncluttered, and well-equipped, the cottage provides an excellent base from which to explore. When you just need to put your feet up and chill, the deck is the perfect place. The mattress upstairs (and the spiral staircase to get there) took a bit of getting used to, and it took us a while to find the information pack (which looks like it could be updated). We loved the big bath and the separate, roomy shower and were very impressed with the TV, which we didn't notice at first!

“A very clean and tidy property.”

The welcome basket and milk was a nice touch and much appreciated. The property is set in a quiet area and is a great base for exploring. The parking space is very near to the property making it easy for loading and unloading the car. Tesco and Aldi a short car drive at Wadebridge or Tesco at Padstow isn't too far in the car. The setting on the creek is great for wildlife... especially the friendly swan at high tide.

“Waterside is a lovely holiday cottage in a wonderful setting on a tidal creek.”

It is clean and comfortable and facilities are good. There is a spiral staircase to the first floor bedroom so no good for people with mobility problems. We did have an issue with the downstairs toilet not flushing when we first arrived, however this was speedily dealt with. A good place to stay very close to Padstow.

“Great location perfect base for us snd the cottage was lovely and quiet by the creek.”

Beds are so personal but for us the mattresses were very hard giving us back ache. We tried both upstairs and downstairs. So I wouldn't complain as some may prefer a hard mattress. We were self catering and had nowhere to store food packages ascthere wasn't one empty cupboard for food use. So it had to be put out on the kitchen work tops. The electric towel rails We only fathomed how to turn on by about day 4 we couldn't find any instructions to help. The cottage itself made up for these minor niggles and we had a lovely holiday. Anyone with poor mobility would really struggle with the stairs though. We just about managed them. 4/5 from us.

Perhaps it would be a good idea to mention this in the accommodation description. Other than that the cottage was an excellent place to stay.

“The cottage is really lovely, and as described the outlook is superb, and its ease of getting to places is ideal.”

Padstow can be reached by foot via the creek, or by bus , the stop is at the end of the lane . The stairs could be an issue if you are not as agile as you once were, we used the downstairs bedroom as a dressing area to avoid any accidents. There were only 2 of us and the cottage was more then big enough, however if 4 adults were going to stay I would imagine it would be very cosy! The bistro is worth a visit as is Greens in Padstow, both offered good locally sourced food ,whilst being good value for money.

This is by far the nicest one. The cottage was clean and welcoming with complementary tea/ coffee and biscuits. It was ideal for us as my friend is not able to use stairs and had her own bedroom and bathroom downstairs. Mine upstairs was absolutely gorgeous, so light and airy, with really lovely furnishings. It was lovely to have a little conservatory to sit in as the weather was not at its best. We toured around and ate at the Ring o bells in St Issey most evenings. I walked along the creek path into Padstow and back a few times as I have in the past and it was absolutely beautiful. I would highly recommend this cottage to anyone ,and I will be back. Thank you so much to Pauline for looking after the cottage and to Sykes for the excellent communication in cancelling last years and rebooking for this year because of you know what. Linda and Karen

“Lovely cottage in a beautiful setting.”

Spiral staircase could be a problem for a family or someone less able. We decided to use the downstairs bedroom as a dressing room rather than attempt to take luggage up the spiral staircase, this would be a problem though if 4 people were staying there. Lovely sun room and decking area overlooking the creek. Kitchen very well stocked with crockery etc. Mattress quite hard in upstairs bedroom, and a few cobwebs missed by the cleaner. Enjoyed our stay.

The cottage is comfy and cosy, in a perfect spot as it’s lovely and quiet. We visited St Ives, Polzeath, Falmouth, Rock and walked into Padstow from the cottage which is lovely and scenic.

“We paid nearly £1000 for a four person cottage for one week.”

Whilst we understand that the half term is an expensive period we did not feel that, taking this into consideration, that this represented fair value. For this price we would have expected, at the very least, a welcome pack with the essentials and a bottle of wine. This is not much to expect and every other Sykes cottage we have staid in so far this year has had one. Is that too much to ask in terms of customer service

“First, the condition of the cottage on arrival was impeccable.”

Next, the parking was very good - designated space for one car and plenty of spare parking for our second car. The veranda overlooking the creek was a delight and source of many hours pleasure seeing the tide coming in and out, and watching birds and fish. We appreciated the wide range of maps and guides to walks and things to see. We were warned about the stairs to the upper floor but they were a bit much for we old ones, so our young one had the upper floor. Consequently she did better than us bed-wise, and she loved her Juliet balcony. The dog enjoyed proximity to the Saints' Way.

“We have stayed in several cottages on this creek so we had a good idea of what to expect but this property was the most comfortable of all of them.”

Yes - the accommodation is snug for 4 people and the spiral stairs may be an issue for some but the description of the property accurately warns of this. Everything we needed was provided and we really love the (slightly remote) location. The creek has a character if its' own and the wild life is wonderful. It's only a 2 mile (off road) walk to Padstow but be aware of the tide, the boardwalk may be slightly submerged in the case of a very high tide. We love walking and the nearby headlands are fabulous for circular walks, the scenery unbeatable. Go equipped, even though Tesco is only a few minutes drive away and it is very well stocked, it gets very busy during school holiday time. We shall most certainly return and make a point of enjoying more meals at the Old Mill Bistro and The Pickwick. We tend to avoid Stein's empire but the goujons at his cafe make a stop worth a visit!

“April 2018 In a week when much of the country was still suffering rain, we had a lot of beautiful if cool weather, so Padstow seems to have its own micro climate.”

We also found it well placed for surrounding beaches although 'dog friendly, lead off ones were here and there (leaflet in cottage identified which). Loads of info booklets, leaflets and maps. Prolific mud on all walks, so boots essential and a temperature range of 8 - 16 degrees meant layers. The cottage is lovely in a very quiet location and well equipped. It's on the Saints Way into Padstow, an undulating walk with fabulous views. You could easily spend a day relaxing on the decking or in the sun room (the only cottage to have one) with the river bubbling by. Very steep spiral stairs to first floor bed and bath which our dog attempted twice and fell down as he had no grip. Rather than taking cases up, we took clothes needed only. We'd go back!

The atmosphere is wonderful if you want to just sit back and relax, food a short drive away was generous if you don’t want to cook and the beaches and coves a childhood paradise which brought back happy bucket and spade memories.

Situated on the edge of the Little Petherick tidal creek, we have been lucky to enjoy the sight of Moorhen chicks, egrets, curlews and ducks. Waterside Cottage is just THE perfect base for your stay in Cornwall. From the deck huge fish are seen at high tide, with footprints of the elusive otter seen at low tide: this cottage is a real Cornish gem.

LITTLE PETHERICK

Padstow 2.5 miles; Wadebridge 4.5 miles.

Set in a wooded valley at the head of a tidal creek running up from the Camel Estuary, this tiny hamlet of Cornish stone houses exudes peace and tranquillity. The beautiful countryside around Little Petherick is criss-crossed with a network of local footpaths, amazing gardens and stately homes to explore, and the Saint’s Way Trail passes through the hamlet offering an off-road walk into Padstow. Padstow is a charming working fishing port with colourful harbour surrounded by glorious sandy beaches is at the head of the Camel River. Watching the everyday ebb and flow of harbour life is a perfect way to spend a day. This foodie destination with popular eateries from Rick Stein and Paul Ainsworth is the start and end point for the Camel Cycle Trail and a good base for watersports. Nearby, Wadebridge is a bustling market town perfectly placed alongside the ebb and flow of the River Camel. The town hosts an array of excellent shops, pubs and restaurants and is home to North Cornwall's only family-owned cinema. The excellent surfing beaches of Harlyn and Constantine are ideal for safe family fun, and Constatine Bay is also home to a golf course, just a few miles away, while a passenger ferry across the river from Padstow to Rock takes you to the beach at Daymer Bay. Just around the corner toward Pentire Head is the surfing paradise at Polzeath, and when the beach no longer calls, there’s a golf course nearby, several stately homes and gardens to visit and the Camel Trail to walk or cycle. Also the fabulous Eden Project is just fifteen miles away.
