We feel it is our happy place!

Rachel “Lovely apartment in a stunning location, views are incredible.”
We had everything we needed for a weeks stay and generally the apartment was comfortable, however we found the sofa very uncomfortable, but we would not let that put us off returning.
- Rachel, September 2024 -
Allan “As always flat was clean and tidy no issues.”
- Allan, May 2024 -
Mike “Once again we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Red Peg.”
A very comfortable apartment with all the facilities you could wish for . Of course the amazing views are just stunning. We will definitely book next year .

John Richard Graham “It was lovely as it always has been.”
Like the new layout in the living area. It is a joy to stay there.

Terry “We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Red Peg.”
It's a unique building which we had spotted from afar on an earlier holiday and we were thrilled to find that we could stay there. It's a lovely flat, very clean and comfortable with all the facilities that we needed. Just a small point - the light in the fridge isn't working and this makes the fridge appear to be out of action. A bigger point - turning off the main road, the access road is a single track with a few passing places but the final stretch up to the fort is particularly poor. Meeting another vehicle, in the dark and in pouring rain became my nightmare but we only met the bin lorry and in the daylight. The management company should greatly improve the visibility and the state of the passing places.
- Terry, December 2023We are so glad you enjoyed your stay. It is a unique building and with such amazing views. We will be visiting the property in the forthcoming weeks and will sort out the light in the fridge. The access road leading up to the entrance gates of the fort is actually a council owned road and doesn't belong to the management company. We do hope that this would not deter you from a return visit and do hope to welcome you back again/ Property Owner

Neil “A very pleasant and comfortable apartment, which has been maintained to a high standard.”
I was looking forward to sitting in the Blue rocking chair, and watching the shipping go by, but it has now been removed !! (Just for your info, before the next season starts properly, the lights in the microwave and fridge do not appear to be working, and the extractor fan does not seem to come on - the lights work, but not the fan. I hope this assists) I thoroughly enjoyed my stay, especially with the stormy weather whipping up the sea, and hope to return again in the future. Thank you
- Neil, December 2023Thank you for taking the time to complete your feedback. We are sorry to hear of your disappointment that the blue rocking chair is no longer in the apartment, the apartment has recently been refurbished. We will check the lights in both the microwave and fridge along with the extractor fan. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay and look forward to welcoming you back. Property Owner

Philip “Fantastic place for that special break .”
accommodation very clean and comfortable , everything on hand for relaxing stay . Views spectacular and surrounding area great for both long and short walks . Will definitely rerurn .
- Philip, October 2023 -
Philip “Great stay, a few niggles, could not close door to bathroom, easy fix but was bodged up, bathroom basin was obviously blocked, took ages to empty, there was no kitchen roll on arrival, so had to buy , and no dishwasher tablets available, a little bit dissapointed overall, was also left a message on my voicemail on the 5th of september that i needed to be at the property on the 12th so that a safety check on the balcony could be carried out, ?”
i do not listen to any of voicemails that are sent to my number, a text message would have been ok, ? we was 20 miles away when i recieved a phone call on the day of the balcony check, so had to make way back to appartment as it was going to be condemned as sykes said, ? but apart from that ?maybe you could have done better,

Tina “From the moment we stepped in, Red Peg felt like home.”
The apartment was superb with plenty of storage and stocked with everything you could wish for. The bed was really comfortable and the views “wow”, just wow. The area was outstandingly beautiful. The property is very close to the coastal path, lots of great walks around the Edgecomb estate too. We took the ferry from Cawsand to the Barbican. Another from Cremyll to the Royal William docks but maybe the best was the trip up the Sound to the boatyards to see warships being repaired, a submarine graveyard and to learn the wonderful history of Plymouth. Sitting in the apartment was also a favourite pastime, watching all the boats, from warships, cargo ships and pilot boats to sailboats and rowing boats, oh and the daily Brittany Ferries cruiser. We will definitely be back, it was like being on our own cruise ship on firm ground. The fort and the apartment are a wonderful find. Thank you
- Tina, July 2023 -
Michele “Fabulous 2nd visit.”
Just as stunning as before. We even commented that it was like 'coming home' here. Cosy and comfortable with amazing views. Access to Freeview / iplayer facilities would be an advantage (or simple step by step instructions to achieve this).
- Michele, June 2023 -
Dot “Amazing view from all rooms Well equipped Very interesting building Lots to see in area but watching yachts and shipping from balcony is enough!”
- Dot, June 2023 -
Chris “A splendid apartment in an historic Victorian fort with great views of the Tamar estuary with many large and small boats going in and out.”
There seemed to be a lack of crockery (only 3 large plates and bowls) so that I had to wash up after every meal instead of being able to use the dishwasher. As is usual in self catering properties the selection of pots and pans was very strange. It was a great week and I thoroughly enjoyed it but I am glad that I am happy driving narrow roads and steep slopes.
- Chris, May 2023Thank you for your feedback and letting us know. We will look into the points raised. We hope to see you back again soon. Property Owner

Allan “A great flat with brill view so good we're going back soon”
- Allan, April 2023 -
Diana “Love the Fort have stayed few times over the past few years, the place lovely but a few things I feel need to be mentioned there needs to be a comfortable slightly higher chair settee to low for anyone with any mobility issues I sat on the chair from the balcony for our stay ,mattress needs to be replaced roll together was really bad ,shower needs handrail and slip mat.”
- Diana, March 2023Thank you for taking the time to complete your feedback which we have taken on board. We are sorry that you felt that the settee was a bit on the low side, this hasn't been mentioned by any of our previous guests. We have checked the mattress with the guests who are currently in the property and they have advised that it is fine. We will purchase a bath/shower mat. Property Owner

Alan “Very comfortable apartment, well thought out facilities.”
Beautiful view, lots of good walks. We will be back in the future.

Marisa L “This property had everything we needed plus a fabulous view of the sea.”
Bed comfortable , kitchen very well equipped . Lift to apt. works well. Lots of walks around area. So close to Kingsands and Cawsands with good food . Relaxing to watch the boats in quiet surroundings. Hope to go back one day.

Excellent flat and location Really well equipped apart from could do with a bit more cutlery and teaspoons when there’s a dishwasher Views and extras like binoculars were great Loved the little beach If you are changing the bed sometime s king size would be welcome We have already booked to come in June
- Dot, September 2022 -
Michele “Fantastic views and facilities (parking, lift, library, gardens, beach etc).”
Clean and comfortable, very homely. Felt safe and secure all the time. The daily naval activities kept us entertained for hours. Thanks for the good quality binoculars! Need more substantial oven gloves please (dangerous trying to lift out casserole dishes with one small padded square). This is the first property we have stayed in that did not have an information folder (about the property, etc, and interesting facts about the local area - places to visit, walks to take, good eating establishments). Even the option for guests to create their own notes to others would have been nice. No guest book available to express our love of the property and how impressed we were with the location and views. We would love to stay again in the near future, and have heartily recommended Red Peg to our family and friends. Thank you for such a happy, restful and memorable holiday.
- Michele, June 2022Thank you for your lovely comments and we're so pleased you had a fab time. We're currently preparing a detailed welcome booklet and totally agree about the oven gloves - they will be replaced. Property Owner

Joy “A lovely place to stay great views from the apartment everything you need for a good holiday the only downside is getting to the Fort down a very narrow cliff road if you meet somebody coming the other way somebody has to reverse back to the nearest parking space also when you get there it's a bit of hike to the lift especially if you have lost of bags even with the help of the shopping trolley to put your belongings in.”
But it is still one of the nicest apartments we have stopped in and yes I would go back again.

Adam “Red Peg more than met our must have a sea view holiday requirements.”
The location is fantastic, the apartment very comfortable and well equipped. We were very sad to leave and will 100% be back.

Yvonne “Took a mini break away to fit in as respite from medical treatment.”
We'd really enjoyed seeing the sights of relatives who have lived in the area, spending hours just watching the views from the apartment and exploring the nearby villages and coastal paths. Having said about the outside, the apartment was perfect, bathroom with a wonderful walk in shower, everything required in ways of cleaning products, fresh coffee for the machine was an added luxury and wonderful to sit back with breakfast in the mornings, occasionally on the balcony which we'd found plastic mugs, ideal using outdoors. Even the clothes horse was a great bonus so washing was ready for taking home. A wonderful and perfect place to stay again.
- Yvonne, February 2022Thank you so much for your amazing feedback and we're really pleased it provided the respite you needed. We look forward to welcoming you back. Property Owner

Philip “The property was extremely well equipped and spotlessly clean .”
It was very spacious and comfortable with an amazing view . The fort had a very extensive library for books , dvd's and jigsaws in case of wet weather and there is extensive walking all round the area . The apartment is perfect for getting away from the crowds and there is always something to see from the fabulous window and balcony .
- Philip, November 2021Thank you for your kind feedback. We agree there is always something to see from the window - storms are the best! Property Owner
-
Paul “Our stay at Red Peg was the most delightful and relaxing as you can get .”
Loved everything about it just looking out at the sea through the window as we were just sitting there was a dream . Everything was there for you and comfortable as well and had a seagull every morning looking in don't see that often but made me laugh. Thank you again for an amazing stay.
- Paul, November 2021Thank you so much for your lovely comments and we're so pleased you love it as much as we do. Property Owner

Kim “A Real Gem !”
Stunning views changing all the time. Lovely apartment, comfy bed and sofa. Balcony was magic. No telescope though. Beaches nearby and water taxi to Plymouths ocean city ! All the people there are cool and relaxed. The harbour and boats were picturesque.
- Kim, September 2021 -
Leslie “Wonderful views from the apartment.”
Very comfy bed. Helpful owner. Great choice of walks.
- Leslie, June 2021 -
Nick “The communication with Helpful Holidays was extremely poor and not to have received information from the owner regarding the key combination until 7pm the night before our holiday was due to start was exceedingly bad (and then only after 2 calls from us to HH).”
The process didn't seem to be understood by HH despite it being their process! It was a good job we did speak to the owner however, she was very helpful and she told us that towels were not provided which was contrary to what was stated on the website. The apartment was very nice , clean and well equipped and the view was amazing, however some instructions on how to use the appliances would have been useful (I guess this kind of thing has been impacted by Covid, but lamenated info cards could be provided). We enjoyed our holiday and will very likely go back another time.
- Nick, May 2021Thank you for taking the time to complete your feedback, we were sorry to hear there was a misunderstanding in regards to the owner contacting you prior to your stay. We have spoken to the owner regarding the points raised and they have apologised on the oversight on this occasion. Despite this we are pleased to hear you enjoyed your visit to Red Peg. Barbara “I've stayed at the Red Peg before - hence I booked again as it is comfortable, clean and the views over Plymouth Sound are stunning.”
There's everything you need in the apartment for a relaxing holiday. I can highly recommend it.
- Barbara, December 2020 -
Paul “Red Peg in reality is more than the details show.”
The flat itself is excellent- clean and tidy with quality furnishings and a good size well equipped kitchen. But the views are amazing. Watching sunrise and sunset each day from the balcony and hearing the sea at night were some of the highlights. Joanne the owner was lovely as we had a few questions which she helped us out with Our stay there was great and I’m sure we will be going back when we’re able to. Thanks again to Joanne and Sykes for a fantastic week.
- Paul, October 2020 -
John Richard Graham “Usual high standard which led to a peaceful, relaxing break.”

We have stayed in two other fort picclecombe apartments, but found this one the best it was situated in a better position for the views, and we found it more comfortable,
- Philip, August 2020 -
Michael “We have stayed here before and fully confirmed our previous excellent impression of this wonderful apartment.”
Qur previous visit was in summer and we were concerned about being warm during a winter stay but no worry each room was heated to a comfortable level and easily controlled. The only slight problem we had was a failure of the lift to our floor on our last morning, but a helpful resident showed us an alternative lift which came up as far as the floor below ours.We shall look to stay again
- Michael, December 2019 -
Warren “We had a fantastic time views were out of this world, well equipped apartment with everything you need Joanne was very helpful would I stay again yes yes yes I would, sea scape changes by the hour, area is easy to get to and easy access to all places, we were sad to come home, Joanne you are a lucky lady.”
- Warren, November 2019 -
Jacqueline “We have used helpful holidays for 4 previous holidays and been really pleased.”
There was no welcome pack of any kind. Unfortunately the property had a very poor mobile signal and no land line so if there had been an emergency you would have a problem. There was no WiFi and only basic tv.There was only 1 tea towel provided for a week with no dishwasher which is very poor. There were lovely gardens and a pool but you could not access them without security codes which were not provided. There was no information on the heating although it was stated there was a leaflet somewhere in the kitchen which we never found. The saving grace was the view.
- Jacqueline, June 2019Thank you for taking the time to complete your feedback following your recent stay at Red Peg. We are delighted to confirm that WiFi is now provided at Red Peg. We have asked our housekeepers to ensure that 2 or 3 tea towels are provided in future. We do not advertise having a dishwasher but this is something we are considering for next year. The pool is not available to guests, but the gardens are free for guests to wander around. We have checked, and are happy to confirm that the information folder does give full information on how to work the heating. We are sorry if you did not find this during your stay. Despite the points raised we are very pleased you enjoyed the beautiful views Red Peg has to offer. Property Owner

David “Our holiday was fantastic.”
Red peg was very comfortable and the views were brilliant. We will definitely be going back.
- David, May 2019 -
Gillian “Easy to book.”
Apartment was as described. Very comfortable, clean and modern. Everything was provided in the apartment to make the holiday a lovely week away.
- Gillian, May 2019 -
Joan “Initial contact with owner not straight forward, main phone number not available, had to use mobile number.”
Note that no code is necessary for the gate,it's always open, please update initial info.Flat is reasonably equipped kitchen wise but there are some short comings elsewhere.Plug for recharging razors missing bur contacted owner and it was delivered the next day.Water pressure very poor, hot water was a problem it was hot at first then decided that was it,we had to boil the kettle. No soap dish in shower although it was a very good shower and hot too. The view was excellent and the permanent residents friendly and most helpful.Despite earlier reviews there were plenty of towels available, just as we left the pool was opened and it is heated and set in lovely gardens.Good walks all around but take a map of the Tamar Valley.
- Joan, May 2019 -
Annis “Great location.”
Outlook constantly changing, enjoyed the maritime activity- learnt something about naval ships, and to identify them! Would love to come back
- Annis, March 2019 -
John Richard Graham “It is a lovely apartment with views looking out over the sea.”
Oystercatchers rest overnight on the slipway visible just outside of the window. Very restful atmosphere. Would highly recommend the apartment, and the location.

As previously referred to by some one else, only two medium sized towels was stingy but otherwise was a lovely place, flat was comfortable and in a good position , the balcony was definitely a bonus
- David, September 2018 -
John “The view across the bay was superb with ships, both RN and others, so often present.”
Red Peg was ideal for two persons, village shops were not too far away, likewise ferries to Plymouth. Our break there exceeded our expectations though it must be admitted that for most of the time the weather was quite perfect. Should we decide to look again at Cornwall we will almost certainly return to Red Peg.
- John, September 2018 -
Alison “A single bath and hand towel between the 2 of us seemed a little mean.”
At 5' 1" I couldn't safely reach crockery and glasses from the kitchen units. We have stayed at Fort Picklecombe before and know it is a good base with fantastic views.
- Alison, September 2018 -
Hans “We had a wonderful time in Red Peg.”
The wonderful views, the beautiful area, the very nice apartment made our expectations more than true! Hans en Adje from the Netherlands

Amanda “Well what can I say about this amazing Apartment!”
We have been staying at the Fort for some 15 years or so and have staying in several different Apartments but this exceeds all of them by far! It was spotless & extremely well equipped, with very tasteful decoration and furnishings all to a very high standard. A beautiful Apartment with fantastic views!! What more can you ask for? If I had to mark this Apartment out of 10 it was be 12/10 with no hesitation at all!!
- Amanda, April 2018 -
