“Very disappointing stay at pebble cottage, the WiFi was so slow it was unusable,we notified Sykes of the problem the day after we arrived after many messages during our stay this was not resolved by the end of our stay, this significantly impacted our holiday my husband needed to work and he had to go to the local cafe to work, my son was trying to revise for his GCSEs, all very difficult and stressful with no workable WiFi, not what you expect when you book a cottage with WiFi.”

As a company we feel Sykes response to this was very poor, basically quoting terms and conditions, as we'd said the WiFi was still working, this in fact is debatable as we'd said it was so slow it was unusable. This company will hide behind terms and conditions with no customer service. Bike storage, if you call an unlockable shed full of garden furniture and fish hooks all over the floor bike storage then I guess it did provide this. There was mould on the walls in both bedrooms. Bike storage, if you call an unlockable shed full of garden furniture and fish hooks all over the floor bike storage then I guess it did provide this. There was mould on the walls in both bedrooms. Shower upstairs, was so hot you couldn't stand under it, no way of turning it down after a minute it went cold ,so useless. Broken china pull light in downstairs bathroom could easily cut your hand on it. Wall Cupboard plastic above toaster had melted at some point, clearly a fire hazard. Whilst there was a washing machine in the shed the water from this just runs across the middle of the court yard. Really not what we expected from a holiday cottage.

About the location

PORTREATH

Truro 14 miles; St Ives 15 miles.

With its sheltered harbour, beautiful Portreath was, in the 1800s, a hive of activity and industry as a major tin-exporting port. Today, the village attracts visitors from around the world with its wild and rugged coastline. High cliffs, secluded coves and sandy, surf-washed beaches typify the area while all around are reminders of the area's rich industrial heritage. Portreath offers a small fishing harbour, shops, a number of pubs, three cafés and a Chinese restaurant, while its safe, sheltered sandy beach is a popular attraction. For a great day out, visit the cathedral city of Truro with its cobbled streets, shopping centre, theatre, museum and great restaurants, just 14 miles away, or travel a few miles along the coast and follow the vast expanse of sandy beach, which leads down to Hayle and on to St Ives. A delightful holiday location.
